The 41-Day Mandala Deeksha

Before undertaking the pilgrimage, every devotee must observe the Mandala Deeksha — a 41-day vow of rigorous spiritual discipline. This transforms the devotee's body and mind, making them fit vessels for the Lord's grace.

  • 01Wear the sacred mala (black bead necklace) at all times — never remove it during the Deeksha period.
  • 02Observe strict celibacy and purity of thought, word, and deed throughout the 41 days.
  • 03Consume only sattvik (pure vegetarian) food — no meat, fish, eggs, alcohol, or tobacco.
  • 04Bathe twice daily, wear only black or blue clothing, and sleep on the ground or a simple mat.
"The Deeksha is not merely a preparation — it is the pilgrimage itself. By the time the devotee reaches Sabarimala, they have already been transformed by the Lord's grace."
